In order to prevent them from preying on the inhabitants of [[Imperial]] settlements, the jungles that the mist-beasts dwell in have to be regularly burned back by [[Adeptus Mechanicus|Mechanicus]] [[macro-purgator]]s. The opening of the [[Great Rift]], however, coincided with a marked increase in the populations of various Ghyrish predatory species which saw reduced effectiveness of containment procedures.{{Fn|1}}
