==Overview==
Essentially mindless feeding machines, these constructs mind Tomb Worlds and perform a variety of other tasks.{{Fn|1a}} Scarabs are primarily produced by [[Canoptek Spyder]]s from converting raw energy. Their basest instincts are to repair and reproduce.{{Fn|4c}} They are also used by [[Cryptek]]s to break down any substance they come across and convert it into energy for further use.{{Fn|10a}} Scarabs come in several sizes and types, and with '''Nanoscarabs''' being so small as to be microscopic.{{Fn|10b}}

In battle Scarabs fly ahead of the main army in swarms so thick that they've been known to blot out the sun. They appear out of nowhere, deadly, but making no sound except for the rustle of carapace over carapace. While Scarab swarms have no direct weapons, their claws are sufficiently sharp to slice through an enemy's armour. Because of their size they can find cover easily, but when in swarm they are vulnerable to massed ordnance. They may be armed with [[Disruption Field]]s for attacking heavily armoured targets.{{Fn|1a}}
Scarabs are capable of breaking down essentially any material into energy. This raw energy is stored in their mechanical guts and is used to create matter.{{Fn|4e}} Scarabs have been seen burrowing through the crust of planets to mine the welling magma from a world's mantle.{{Fn|4d}} They use this to reproduce at an astonishing rate, creating never-ending swarms that devour all in their path.{{Fn|4a}} Some claim to have encountered worlds entirely dissembled by them, having become a ball of endlessly recycling scarabs. A living metal planetoid that continues to fight against the crushing gravity of their own collective mass.{{Fn|4c}}

A scarab's ability of flight is enabled through the use of hyperplastek wings,{{Fn|4a}} contra-grav engines and gravitic impellers.{{Fn|4b}} When not undertaking tasks, Scarabs will go into a state of dormacy, exposing their bellies to absorb radiant energy in order to recharge their energy reserves.{{Fn|9}}
