The Elysian Drop Troops Imperial Guard regiment are known for the rapid deployment capabilities using Airborne Troop Carriers called Valkyries, and deloy by rappelling or grav-chutes from high altitudes. The 99th Elysian Drop troops regiment were heavily engaged on the eastern fringe against Hive Fleet Kraken. After many years of continuous engagement against the Tyranids the regiment was on its last reserves of manpower. The survivors, ammounting to not much more than a reinforced company were reorganised into a single detachment under the command of the senior surviving officer, D companies' Major Durra. The detachment was then seconded to the Inquisition, in service to Lord Inquisitor Varius of Ordo Xenos. Varius included the detachment with the forces given to Inquisitor Lok to investigate the apparent silence of the research facility on Beta Anphelion IV

The regiments raised on Elysia are mainly specialised airborne drop troops and detachement D-99 is no exception. However the regiment has been whittled down in combant and no longer has access to alot of the heavier equipment available to a more typical Elysian founding. The regiment is also exclusively made up of Tyrranic war veterans.

The men and women of Detachment D-99 have meen surgically modified with a technique first developed during the defence of Dantris III, a forge world on the eastern fringe. Mechanicus Biologis technicians developed a drug secreting gland that allowed the guardsmen of the Lostock 23rd to better resist the effects of tyranid alterations to a worlds Biosphere.

Forge World recently released a new line of resin models for Elysian Drop Troops for their Taros Campaign, a conflict between the Imperium and the Tau.
