In Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War II - Retribution Tarkus states that the traitor was one he fought alongside with at Kronos, and that they became regular friends during the Tyranid Invasion on sub-sector Aurelia. Now, it is impossible for Tarkus, Cyrus, Martellus, Jonah Orion to be the traitor, as all are present in said game, fighting alongside Gabriel Angelos and Apollo Diomedes. This leaves Thaddeus and Avitus. But as far as we know, Thaddeus did not participate in the Kronos campaign, plus he is not part of the group if you start a new campaign in Chaos Rising without importing your previous save file from Dawn of War II, as all commanders who died in the final mission of an imported save file are. This leads us to concluding that only Avitus could have been the traitor.

Devastator Sergeant Avitus

Avitus is a Devastator Marine Sergeant in the Blood Ravens 4th Company. He fought alongside Captain Davian Thule in the Dark Crusade, and distinguished himself during the assault on the Imperial Guard stronghold Victory Bay. It was also in this battle that Avitus lost many of his squadmates, which forever changed Avitus and prompted his vision of Guardsmen as traitors and weaklings. He is renowned for his unmatched hatred for the enemy, which many regard as his greatest weapon.1

In Dawn of War II, Avitus once again serves alongside Captain Davian Thule in his defence of the Aurelia Sector.1

The Devastator of Victory Bay

Avitus grew up in a small settlement on Typhon that was terrorized by a corrupt regiment of the Imperial Guard. The settlement was extorted to near starvation by unofficial taxes and penalties, and often served as a target of the Guardsmen's wanton cruelty.[Needs Citation]

Avitus's hatred spiked to new heights during the battle of Victory Bay on Kronus. Cracking the Guardsmens` defenses was a savage and bloody affair, which cost the lives of two of Avitus's squadmates.[Needs Citation]

Avitus has since seen Guardsmen as traitors and weaklings.[Needs Citation]

Treachery

In Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War II - Retribution, it was revealed by Tarkus that it was Avitus who had betrayed his battle-brothers to the Black legion. Tarkus "slew him." 3(see notes)

Equipment

Avitus wields a Astartes MK IVc-pattern Heavy Bolter in battle, which can be later upgraded to a Plasma Cannon or Missile Launcher. In Chaos Rising Avitus can wield Lascannons.2

Notes
