A Sector is part of the larger organisation of the segmentum. There are many sectors to one segmentum.
The size of a sector varies depending on local demands and steller density. It works on a volume basis rather than, like a subsector a system basis. A typical sector may be 7 million cubic light years in size, equivilent to a cube with sides almost 200 light years long.
This type of designation is, as far as we know, only used in the Imperium.
