The Siege of Thanatos was a battle between the Necrons and Word Bearers.
The battle began when the Chaos Space Marines fell upon the Tomb World of Thanatos, defended by the legions of the Oruscar Dynasty. The Word Bearers sought the Celestial Orrery, and with a device of such power could achieve the unthinkable. However the Necrons refuse to yield, and a blood, long-running siege endures. Necron Warriors and Immortals battled across the mountainous high-gravity surface against Daemon Engines and fanatical Word Bearers. The siege only ended when reinforcements from the Kardenath Dynasty arrived and crushed the Word Bearers.[1]
The war, however, did not finish there, for the Kardenath nobility are pursuing their own omnicidal campaign of destruction and desire the Celestial Orrey for themselves. When the Oruscar Phaeron Hakmephet refused, Thanatos was reduced to a battleground between Necrons. The siege continues to this day.[1]
