The Bell of Lost Souls is located on Terra at the peak of the Tower of Heroes. It is ancient, like most of the equipment on Terra, and as big as a building. It is also covered in runes and its sound is said to be like the scream of an anguished god. It is sounded when a great hero of the Imperium dies. The sound of the bell lasts for a long time and reaches the ears of millions of the inhabitants of Terra.1
The bell was rung one thousand times to honour each dead marine when the Fire Hawks Chapter was lost.2, 3 This may possibly indicate that each Space Marine is a great hero of the Imperium, in which case the bell must have been sounded millions of times.
