Salamanders are large lizards native to the volcanic world of Nocturne.[1]
The Salamanders Space Marine Chapter is named after these mighty beasts, with whom they share Nocturne as their homeworld, and also had a part in the Chapter's first beginnings. The final initiation for a Salamander Scout is to hunt down and slay one of these beasts. A particularly large and dangerous variety of salamander known as firedrakes can breathe fire, weigh up to several tons, and are found on Mount Deathfire.[1]
