Excommunicate Traitoris is the designation applied to Imperial individuals[3] or groups, including Space Marine Legions,[1] Knight Houses[4] or radical Inquisitors, that have betrayed the Imperium through heresy, mutation or any other act the Imperium deems unforgivable. Several Space Marine forces have been deemed Excommunicate, such as the Traitor Legions,[1] the Flame Falcons, the Relictors, and the Soul Drinkers.[2] Such Chapters frequently become Renegade Space Marines.
