Grey Hunters use the [[Bolter]]s pistol grip, allowing them to use it like a [[Bolt Pistol]] in close combat. Whilst this goes against other chapters training, and some might say, common sense, It seems to work for the grey hunters. The use of the pistol grip, and close combat weapons from their blood claw days, allows the grey hunters to deal out more punishment in close combat then their brother-marines in other chapters. The ability to deal this extra damage, encourages the grey hunters to charge to the enemy, rather than stay back and shoot. Their enthusiasm for being toe to toe with the enemy is tempered by their experience of war, and they will stand and shoot if the situation dictates that it is the best policy. | Grey Hunters use the [[Bolter]]s pistol grip, allowing them to use it like a [[Bolt Pistol]] in close combat. The Space Wolves Grey Hunter forms the basis of the chapters armed forces. They operate roughly in the same manor as a normal Space Marine Tactical Squad. However, the similarities are few. Grey Hunter squads are made up of those marines that formed a Blood Claw pack, and have survived the packs time as blood claws.
Grey Hunters use the Bolters pistol grip, allowing them to use it like a Bolt Pistol in close combat.
A grey hunter pack will also have access to other weapons. Meltaguns, Flamers and Plasma Guns are used reguarly, as in a standard tactical squad. However, the pack also may have access to Power Weapons or even, a Power Fist. These close combat weapons, making the marines already impressive combat skills, all the more deadly.
It is usually from grey hunter packs, that a brave, skilled warrior will be choosen to join the Wolf Guard. For this to happen, is a great honour to both the individual marine, and his pack. The pack may well compose a saga to comemorate the warriors deeds, and relate them to future battle-brothers. These sagas both impart battle knowlage to younger marines, and inspire their courage and bravery, causing them to try to out do their predicesor.
After serving as a grey hunter for a time, the pack will be formed into the heavy weapon team, known as the Long Fangs.
