Space Marine Bike Squadrons are fast, agile and deadly. They make excellent reconnaissance troops as well as providing a heavy and hard-hitting blow to enemy lines, especially in the rear.
Bike Squadron
Space Marine Bike Squadrons are fast moving light attack units designed to outflank enemy forces and, if need be, launch rapid assaults on enemy positions. Bike Squadrons are part of the 2nd-5th and 8th companies of a standard Codex Astartes Space Marine chapter, counting as support units.1
The squadron consists of a sergeant and between two and four bikers, with each bike mounting a twin-linked bolter and each biker carrying frag grenades. Up to two of the bikers may take a flamer, meltagun or plasma gun and the squad may take krak grenades and melta bombs. Also, one attack bike armed with either a heavy bolter or multi-melta may join the squadron.1
When used by chapters which do not follow the Codex Astartes, the name and frequency of Bikes can change. The Dark Angels second company, the Ravenwing, is completely mounted on Bikes, Attack Bikes and Land Speeders.2 The Salamanders use less companies but with more marines in each and so bikes only feature in the second, third and fourth companies.3
Space Wolves almost follow the Codex Astartes, however the only Wolves known to ride bikes are the Blood Claws, and then only a few of them do this as it is considered an overly headstrong approach to warfare.4 Finally, the White Scars are known to make heavy use of Bikes due to the open plains on which they train on Mundus Planus.5
