Close Combat is the act of hand to hand melee fighting, where using ranged weapons would be impractical. Many close combat weapons are often as deadly as ranged ones. Close combat weapons range from a simple Chainsword or Choppa, to more deadly weapons, such as the Power Weapon and Power Fist. Some armies excel at engaging in close combat, such as Orks, Blood Angels, World Eaters Berzerkers and Space Wolves.
Armies such as these are usually described as 'choppy', meaning they do well in close combat. Other armies, such as Imperial Guard, Tau, Necrons (and in some cases Eldar) tend to be more 'shooty', having only a few specialist units that can go into close combat without suffering as many casualties.
