A '''Chapter Master''' is in charge of one Chapter of [[Space Marines]]. Chapter Master is the highest rank available to a Space Marine. He is assisted by the Chief [[Librarian]] and [[Chaplain]] in most cases. As well as managing the Space Marines at his command, and the Company Captains under him, he also has a duty to his Chapter's [[homeworld]], to govern and protect it. A chapter master is almost always highly skilled in tactics, leadership, and all kinds of combat.
Foremost of a thousand Space Marines, the Chapter Master is the leader of the Chapter, a warrior with centuries of experience on the battlefield. He is also a master tactician, a devout follower of the [[Codex Astartes]], and the man responsible for the thousands of decisions that can affect battles on the far side of the galaxy.
The Chapter Master is often the one who teaches the recruits the history of the Chapter, and he is responsible for keeping the secrets and following the traditions of the Chapter. He is often the ruler of the Chapter's homeworld, and is responsible for maintaining the oaths and allegiances of the Chapter to outside worlds and organisations. The office of Chapter Master was originally held by the [[Primarchs]], during the time before the [[Second Founding]], and it is their examples and actions that each Chapter Master must adhere to.
The title Chapter Master is not consistant throughout the Adeptus Astartes and often another title is used in place of it. The most notable titles are: Supreme Grand Master (Dark Angels), Grand Master (Various Chapters), Great Wolf (Space Wolves), and High Marshal (Black Templars).
