History
During the Horus Heresy, one of the Death Guard's greatest captains, named Typhon (now known has [[Typhus]]), killed the [[Navigator]] of their capitol ship. Pretending that they were still loyal to the Emperor, Typhon led his followers into the warp instead of going to holy [[Terra]] to defend the [[Imperium]]. Typhon detonated several Virus Bombs inside the ships, craving salvation the Death Guard called upon Nurgle to help them. Nurgle corrupted them beyond messure, transforming them into the grotesque warriors they are now. Typhon was the only one who was not affected by this plauge, he had already sacrificed his soul to Nurgle, it is said that he was covered in the plauge flys. The Flys entered into Typhon and thus Typhus herald and champion of Nurgle was born.

There was one company of the Deth Guard who were not corrupted, they loyally went to Terra and warned the Emperor of the corruption of their brothers. It is not known what happened to these loyalists, but it is a reasonable assumption that they were honoured and either destroyed in the battle on Terra or they were the foundation of a current Chapter.
