A '''Planetary Defence Force''' (or PDF) is an individual Imperial world's governmental military. Imperial worlds have their own government separate from that of the [[Adeptus Terra]], though they are still part of the Imperium, and [[Planetary Governors|planetary governors]] are obligated to efficiently run the world on behalf of the Imperium and to protect it from threats.
Part of this obligation is that every world of the Imperium is required to possess local military forces for its own defence. The PDF also acts as a source of trained soldiers for the [[Imperial Guard]]. The PDF is an Imperial planet's first line of defence against invasion and internal rebellion.
