The Word Bearers under Layak would take part in the [[Siege of Terra]].{{Fn|27}} In the end, [[Horus]] was defeated, and the legions of Chaos were forced to fleefrom the [[Sol System]]. {{Fn|1}} Some Word Bearers refused to give up the cause, and a group led by [[Dark Apostle]] [[Khal-Hanam]] established a refuge at [[Neptune]]'s moon of [[Laomedia]], using sorcery to hide their presence.{{Fn|102a}} There, they began construction of the "Great Work", sacrificing the Moon's populace to power a great device to rekindle the power of the Warp and restart the war.{{Fn|102b}} However [[Perturabo]] was eventually summoned to the world and after chastising the plan as foolish crushed the Word Bearers and scoured the moon of all resources before withdrawing.{{Fn|102c}} Shortly after the defeat at Terra, the Word Bearers were defeated in the [[Bitter War]] and their homeworld of Colchis was destroyed.{{Fn|53b}} The Word Bearers were also forced to retreat to the [[Eye of Terror]], and there they have remained, returning to the Imperium to raid, pillage, and destroy.{{Fn|1}}
