Samus (Daemon Prince of the Ruinstorm), The One Who Walks Behind Us6 is the name of a daemon that was initially manifested on Sixty-Three-Nineteen near the end of the Great Crusade.1c1d The creature went on to plague the Imperium throughout the Horus Heresy.
History
Like all particularly powerful Daemons, Samus is an echo of a particularly powerful act or emotion that has taken place within the Materium. The time of this act within the Materium is not particularly relevant to the Daemons manifestations, as there is no time within the Warp. Thus, Daemons may be spawned from acts that take place well after they first appear. In Samus' case his birth is the result of the murder of Garviel Loken at the hands of Erebus.12
The entire "Samus incident" was hushed up by order of the Warmaster Horus, to hide both the knowledge that an Astartes had turned on his fellows, and that it was possible for malignant warp-entities to corrupt them.1d
Second Manifestation
Samus would appear again during the Battle of Calth as part of the demonic army summoned by Erebus. This time he possessed the body of Word Bearers Captain Morpal Cxir, who deliberately provoked Ultramarines Captain Teus Sullus into killing him, in order to "summon" Samus into realspace.2a Samus ran amok inside the Ultramarines' stronghold, but was finally banished after being stabbed by Captain Remus Ventanus, using Cxir's own athame knife.2b2c
