Exasperated with his clumsy and unresponsive body, Eidolon set out to find a cure. Fabius Bile advised him to find one of a dozen legionaries sent far away long ago, when the legion was still afflicted by the Blight, to extract an untainted progenoid gland. Eventually, the Proudheart stumbled upon a small fortress-monastery on a distant moon, guarded by some Iron Hands, Salamanders, and most importantly, Sergeant Avram Rakomon of the Emperor's Children. During the battle that ensued the lord commander discovered, and quickly grew accustomed to his newly enhanced strength, reflexes, and senses. After he had slain the loyalist sergeant with contemptuous ease, he decided to embrace the boons bestowed upon him by the Dark Prince rather than attempt to return to his previous mundane perfection.16
Scattered in the wake of Fulgrim's ascension, one day forces of the Emperor's Children gathered at agri-station Pyrus Sigma 45-1. Many officers attended, including First Captain Julius Kaesoron, as well as Lord Commanders Archorian, Cyrius, and Eidolon. When the appointed hour came, three most prominent candidates presented their visions regarding the course of the III Legion. Kaesoron expressed devotion to Fulgrim and a desire to find him, Cyrius spoke of challenges and rewards offered by the ongoing war, whilst Eidolon encouraged everyone to indulge in their newfound gifts and freedom. Fabius Bile observed quietly, perhaps as an envoy of the absent Fulgrim. Pretty words were deemed insufficient, though, and force of arms was chosen to settle the matter. Eidolon personally faced the representatives of his two rivals. After a vicious exchange of blows, Eidolon killed Catran Bessili with a crushing strike to the flank, then stabbed Praescus Vak in the throat with the broken remains of the duellist's own sword. Now an undisputable victor attracting genuine supporters, Eidolon requested to be henceforth addressed as Lord Commander Primus17.
Eidolon managed to take command of a third of the Legion, which began to hunt the White Scars. During the hunt, Eidolon killed White Scars Keshig Captain Qin Xa but still proved unable to corner the loyalists at the Battle of the Kalium Gate. He later allied with Mortarion and a sizable contingent of Death Guard where they nearly destroyed the Scars in the Battle of Catallus. However the Scars again escaped, and this time Mortarion ordered Eidolon to track down Calas Typhon and bring the First Captain back to his fold.6
