Obliterators are the horribly mutated remains of the once loyal Space Marines who have been infected with the so called Obliterator Virus. From where the virus came, other than the realm of Chaos, no one will ever know, but when the traitors fled to the Eye of Terror, some of them found themselves asailed by virulent plagues, including Nurgles Rot. What it has done is to touch every army of Chaos Space Marines to one degree or another, more so in the Iron Warriors than any other.

The virus has the impact to merge the carrier with the objects they hold, including weapons, and allowing them to respawn them at any time they wish. They have the ability also to spawn ammunition for their weapons, a most disturbing appearence for one unknowingly infected with the virus. Their skin is merged with the metal of that which they have absorbed, and simply become increadably versatile units, being able to deal with almost any threat.

In most of the Chaos Space Marine forces, only a few members are infected, and as such are rare and generally prized. This is the opposite of the Iron Warriors who seem to have a vast number of Obliterators waiting to recieve their orders, and as such may field more. Being able to morph their own weapons makes them a versatile and deadly enemy, with a very wide range of available weaponry, including Assault Cannons, Heavy Bolters, Lascannons, Multi-meltas, twin-linked Storm Bolters, Flamers, twin-linked Meltaguns, Power Weapons or Power Fists.

Though they are versatile, they are slow to move across the battlefield but once they meet close combat their strength and speed easily overwhelms many of the common units available to most armies, especially if armed with some of the more deadly close combat weapons. Also, due to their amazing abilities, they tend to shrud off all fears and do not hide from vast waves of enemy fire.
