Cossima
Cossima was an Intercessor Sergeant in the Blood Angels Chapter's Death Company.[1c]
Biography
His downfall to the Black Rage began while he served with Captain Raphaen's 4th Company, as it fought to save the Forge World Gharani from the Black Legion. At that time, Cossima was an Jump Pack Assault Intercessor Sergeant, who fought with grace and honour, under the command of Lieutenant Volaris. On his orders, Cossima's squadron was sent to defend a Manufactorum that was about to be attacked by the Black Legion's forces. The squad arrived in time, but the Champion that led the Black Legionaries beheaded the Intercessor Ossian. This enraged Cossima and he attacked the Champion, but was overwhelmed by the Traitor.[1a]
His Vox equipment was damaged in their battle and the Sergeant was unable to contact his squad for help, as he was surrounded by the Champion and other Black Legionnaires. Cossima knew his grace and honour would not defeat his foes and so he chose to embrace the Red Thirst instead. The Flaw gave him the madden strength he needed to kill the Champion and his squadron soon arrived to kill the other Black Legionaries. This allowed the Sergeant to regain himself, but Cossima knew he would need to call upon the Red Thirst again. It was a price the Sergeant was willing to pay, though, in order to save Gharani.[1a] Shortly afterwards, however, the 4th Company was repelled by the Traitor Legion and their forces were evacuated from the besieged Forge World. The Blood Angels regrouped on their Strike Cruiser Sanguine Grace and Captain Raphaen told the Company of his plans for their next attack on the Black Legion. Cossima hoped this would give him the chance to regain some of the honour he lost for embracing the Red Thirst, but it was not to be.[1b]
As Captain Raphaen was explaining their next attack, Cossima fell to the Black Rage and was led away by Chaplain Giorgion to join the Death Company. Though he was lost to the Flaw, the Sergeant had enough self-awareness to realize what was happening and a single tear fell from his eye. Before he lost himself completely to the Black Rage, Cossima hoped that he would die in battle so that he would be cleansed.[1b] The 4th Company would then attack Gharani once more and Chaplain Giorgion led the Death Company against one of the Black Legion's positions. Now fully embraced by the Black Rage, Cossima believed he was fighting the Sons of Horus and charged a Terminator. In reality it was a Possessed Black Legionary, but the Sergeant's attack led to both of their deaths, as they buried their weapons into each other. Now mortally wounded, Cossima fell to the ground and in his last moments he was freed from the Black Rage's visions.[1c]
