Freikstorn Strix

Freikstorn Strix is a Necromundan bounty hunter who is an exile of House Van Saar, where he was once an archeotek.[1]

Biography

Freikstorn Strix[1]

By his house's standards, Strix is ancient at the age of 47, but he has only achieved this by converting his bodysuit into an armoured life-support cradle and by replacing his limbs with powerful cybernetics, although he does not possess any of the archaeo-cyberteknika his former house is known for and that most archeoteks have at least some implants of. He created many of his body modifications by mixing Van Saar's STC technologies with common Imperial tech, but Strix must now harvest parts from his enemies in order to keep himself alive. This has led the bounty hunter to work with Underhive gangs if there is the promise of technology or a hefty score of creds.[1]

In combat, Strix is a deadly enemy, as he wields a "pneumatic-claw gun" (a harpoon launcher) and his bodysuit includes a jet pack he calls the S.H.O.C.K. (Strixian Harness and Ornithoptical Combat Kit) wing, which allows the bounty hunter to "soar" across the battlefield, although they don't allow true flight as yeld wings do. Perhaps the most deadly weapon he wields, though, is the fear Strix creates in his foes. Many of them believe the bounty hunter is not even human at all, but instead a mechanical horror that Hive Primus's noble houses have unleashed upon the Underhive for their own dark amusement.[1]

Trivia

  • The character's name may be a reference to the Strix, owl-like birds of Roman mythology that were said to feed on human flesh.
  • In addition, the character's backstory and design share some similarities with the Marvel Comics villain Adrian Toomes, a.k.a. The Vulture, an old man who wears a powered suit that allows him to fly and drain the life-force of his victims.
