The Gaunt's Ghosts Series written by Dan Abnett follows the adventures of a regiment of the Imperial Guard lead by Colonel-Commissar Ibram Gaunt. It is one of the more successful series of the Black Library with 12 novels published as of October 2009.

The Founding

The Founding is the first larger story arc of this series. It comprises the first three novels, First And Only (1999), Ghostmaker (2000) and Necropolis (2000). These novels were re-printed in a second edition which also featured new covers. The three novels were later reprinted in a single omnibus edition under the title Gaunt's Ghosts: The Founding in 2003. The Founding also contains the short novel "In Rememberance" which explains Warmaster Macaroth's decision to allow the populace of Vervunhive to join existing Guard regiments they fought alongside during the defense of Vervunhive.

The arc tells the early years of the Tanith First and Only, up to the victory on the Hive World Verghast and the influx of new recruits they receive from the survivors of Vervunhive.

The Saint

The Saint is the second story arc, comprising the novels Honour Guard (2001), The Guns Of Tanith (2002), Straight Silver (2002), and Sabbat Martyr (2003). The four novels were reprinted in an omnibus edition under the title Gaunt's Ghosts: The Saint.

This arc deals with events that lead to the reincarnation of the Saint Sabbat during the Sabbat Worlds Crusade.

Traitor General

Gaunt leads a one way infiltration mission to the Chaos held agri world of Gereon in order to eliminate a captured imperial General who may have secrets vital to the security of the entire Sabbat Worlds Crusade

His Last Command

Armour of Contempt

Gaunt returns to Gereon with the Imperial Liberation Force, and must deal with the reality that the imperial forces may be too late.

Only In Death

Colonel-Commissar Gaunt and the Tanith First-and-Only finds themselves in a new wazone, the fortress world of Jago. Tasked with manning the objective of Hinzerhaus to aid the war effort, Gaunt and his men must face ghosts in the present as well as those from the past.

Blood Pact

Gaunt and the Tanith have been stationed on Balhaut for almost two years, having been transferred from the fronts in order to rest and recuperate after Jago. Gaunt is tasked with the interrogation of a prisoner known to him from his days on Gereon, but little does he know that this prisoner is targetted by another, far more sinister foe than the Commissariat.
