Athnar Castigane III

Athnar Castigane III is a General of the Astra Militarum.^[1]

History

He commanded the Imperial forces that defended the Szabryne System in the Nephilim Sector, when it was invaded just as the Necrons' Nephilim Anomaly neared the system. The subsequent war saw Castigane face numerous Chaos and Xenos forces, which he led the system against. But despite the General's efforts, Castigane could not defeat the invaders, no matter what plans or Imperial forces he launched against them. Instead, the Szabryne System was still embattled when the Nephilim Anomaly finally approached it.^[1]

With hours left before the system was lost, Castigane gambled on a final attack, which he hoped would save the Imperials from the Anomaly's Stilling effect. This saw him unleash every Imperial force available to reclaim the Sermona Magnificat, on the world Humilitas. The Magnificat had once been the centre of Imperial faith in the system, until Humilitas was claimed by a Genestealer Cult uprising. The General believed though, that if he could seize back the Magnificat from the Cult, then the Imperials would prove their worth to the Emperor. By doing so, Castigane hoped the Emperor would then protect them from the effects of the Stilling when the Anomaly finally struck the Szabryne System.^[1]
