The Curators was a Chaos Space Marine Warband and Cult that was active in the Eye of Terror and was obsessed with obtaining secrets.[1]
History
This was a trait all of its members had, regardless of which Traitor Legion or Warband they had originally come from. They even allowed Humans, half-humans and Blanks into their Warband, whose symbol of two dragons coiled around a broken skull, was tattooed on their members. Regardless of where they had previously come from, they were all united in the Curators' goal of gathering and hoarding secrets, from forgotten history to ancient artefacts. The Warband was very successful in doing so and had uncovered many hidden truths through the use of war, torture, espionage, and sorcery. The Curators main tool for doing so, though, was through trading with other powers in the Eye of Terror, who bought the Warband's aid in exchange for their secrets. All this knowledge was then stored within the minds of Curators' initiates, where it was crammed into memories guarded with fragments of Daemon names and ritual mnemonic methods. It was said that when they gathered together, the Curators would speak their knowledge to each other, and their positions in the Warband's hierarchy was decided by how much each had to tell. The obsession with obtaining secrets had been a sacred duty to them, a devotion to some demented code that they had made their idol.[1]
And while most Warbands and Cults in the Eye survive for only a handful of years, the Curators proved to be the exception. That was until their gathering of secrets, led many Chaos leaders to fear what the Curators knew of them. This fear drove them to action and they all attacked the Curators in an effective purge of the Warband. Its members were hunted down and slaughtered, while the Curators' holdings were razed. By the end, it was believed that the Warband was destroyed and all that was left of the Curators' was their name and the stories told of the secrets they had collected. However sometime later, it was revealed that the Blank Maehekta had somehow survived the purge. Though she kept this hidden, Maehekta revealed her secret to the Thousand Sons' Exiles Warband, when she offered to aid them in finding a cure for the Pyrodomon.[1]
