Dawn of War III is the sequel to the Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War II games. An announcement trailer was released on May 3rd, 2016.

Gameplay

According to developers, Dawn of War III will feature a return to the base-building and large army battles of the original Dawn of War game while retaining elite units with devastating abilities from Dawn of War II. Knight-class units will be playable.[1]

For multiplayer, inspired by Dota's hero selection phase, Relic designers are considering an element of pick and counter-pick to the pre-battle screen.[1]

Factions

There were three playable factions:

Storyline

In Dawn of War III you will have no choice but to face your foes when a catastrophic weapon is found on the mysterious world of Acheron.

With war raging and the planet under siege by the armies of greedy Ork warlord Gorgutz, ambitious Eldar seer Macha, and mighty Space Marine commander Gabriel Angelos, supremacy must ultimately be suspended for survival.[2]

Tie-In Comics

A 4-issue comicbook series was released around the same time as the video game in May 2017.[4]

Tie-In Novel

A novelization of the story from Dawn of War III was written by Robbie MacNiven and published by Black Library.[5]

Cancelled Future Content

Due to the poor sales of Dawn of War III, Relic decided to cease working on future content for the game and has moved on to other projects.[3]

A sequel, Dawn of War IV, was announced in 2025 but without the involvement of Relic.[6]
