Overview
Exact details about the planet are not clear but it has maintained a human population with trade links to the Imperial planet of Jurn, further south into the Segmentum Tempestus.[1] Epsion exports metal ore, food, and miscellaneous luxury products. It imports a variety of building materials, tools, and weapons.[1] The planet is known to contain swamps and jungles in its lush environment.[3] Epsion has indigenous fauna, including Crotalid and a type of Ferro-Beasts.[3][4]
Epsion Octarius was invaded by the Orks of Warlord Grubnuk where they did battle with a force of Catachan Jungle Fighters.[3] A regiment of Catachan spent forty days amongst Crotalid-infested swamps, making their way towards Grubnuk's Gargant construction facility. When combat ensued, the Catachans were so ferocious that Grubnuk later ordered his Gargants to be painted in the colours of the Catachans: green stripes with red bandannas.[3] Epsion has been the source of three Ork migrations across the span of two decades and is the home of the Overfiend of Octarius (it is unclear whether this refers to Warlord Grubnuk or not).[2]
Tarellian mercenaries have also served on Epsion Octarius.[5]
Trivia
Codex: Chaos (2nd Edition) originally placed this planet just over the boundary into the Segmentum Tempestus and designated it an "Ork World".[6] The 2004 novel Grey Knights (Novel) confirms that Epsion Octarius is in the Segmentum Solar.[1] The later publication Apocalypse (2007) featured a planet called "Epsilon Octarius" just inside the boundary of the Segmentum Solar, which had also been the target of Ork invasions.[2] It seems probable that the name "Epsilon" in the Apocalypse sourcebook was a typo when updating the location of Epsion. However, it is possible that the two planets are intended to be distinct from each other and laying on either side of the boundary between the Segmentum Solar and Tempestus.
