The Hazeroth Abyss is a lightless and barren region of space that dominates much of the Hazeroth Sub-Sector.

Distinctly lacking many active stars (the few of which it does boast are near-death), the Abyss resembles a void in space and serves as a natural border between the trailing/coreward edge of the Calixis Sector and the rest of the Segmentum Obscurus beyond it. With the lack of starlight, the Abyss is full of dead and frozen planets. Even with the lack of inhabitable worlds to travel to, potential visitors are further discouraged by the fact that, even before the opening of the Cicatrix Maledictum, the light of the Astronomican was difficult for navigators to see in the region, and the Warp itself is prone to squalls and becalmments making Warp travel difficult and dangerous. Still, elements and substances that form from the death of stars are incredibly valuable to certain industrial processes, so some people do try and venture inside to harvest them. Nobody who does this though, does so lightly, as rumours swirl about space hulks, pirates, ghosts, and xenos residing within the Abyss that make sure anyone headed inside does so in very heavily armed ships.[1a] How many of these rumours are true, and how many are fantasy, is hard to determine, but there is definitely another threat to be found in the Abyss, and they call themselves the Slaugth. While the Calixian Conclave of the Inquisition is aware of the existence of the Slaugth, they suppress all public knowledge of them.[1b]
