Khar-tann City
History
During the Great Crusade, Kharaatan attempted to resist being brought into compliance by the Imperium. In the resulting campaign, Khar-tann City was the first of Kharaatan's nine cities targeted by the Imperium. The Primarch Vulkan himself led the assault, commanding his Legion, the Salamanders, supported by the Imperial Army and Warhound Titans of the Legio Ignis.[1]
After a sustained artillery bombardment, Vulkan personally led the attack on the city. His plan was to breach the walls in a single location, before commanding the Army and Legio units to withdraw while the Space Marines stormed the city itself, with the aim of minimising civilian casualties. However, upon entering the city, the Salamanders encountered no resistance at all, nor any signs of life. It transpired that Konrad Curze and the Night Lords had already infiltrated the city and butchered the entire population, claiming that this would force the other cities on Kharaatan to surrender without a fight.[1]
Following the Night Lords' withdrawal, Vulkan ordered his Legion's Pyroclasts to raze Khar-tann City.[1]
