Librarius
A Librarius or Librarium is the command and communications centre of a Space Marine Chapter's fortress-monastery, and the repository for centuries of wisdom and history, culled from the reports, treatises and memoirs of the chapter's greatest warriors and finest minds.[7]
A Librarius also toponymically refers to the organisation of Librarians within a Space Marine Chapter's organisational structure.[7]
Most of the servants who work in the Librarius are psykers - those who are full battle-brothers of the chapter are known as Librarians. Librarians hold a functionary rank, describing their role as well as their position. The four ranks of Librarian, in ascending order of importance, are Lexicanium, Codicier, Epistolary and Chief Librarian. Within the Librarius, Lexicaniums are charged with writing down reports of historical events, while Codiciers scrutinise these entries before adding them to the Chapter archives. Epistolaries are one rank higher than Codiciers, and there is usually one Chief Librarian that commands the whole Librarius. Librarians can also enter battle, ready to support their brothers with a range of psychic attacks and defences.[7]}
In the deepest bowels of a Librarius lie the Chapter archives, where many forbidden and dangerous secrets and lore often are kept.[3][7] Within certain chapter fortresses, the Librarius serves as the control centre for the base's defence systems.[1]
