Mortant 7th
The Mortant 7th, known as "The Headhunters", is a Mortant Regiment of the Astra Militarum.[1a]
The Headhunters have a fearsome reputation, in part because Colonel Radge encouraged the regiment's Guardsmen to continue the Mortant tradition of taking enemy body parts as trophies.[2]
Their preferred combat knifes are the so called 'Butcher Blades'.[4]
Known Actions
- 857.M41[3]: The Sacking of Colonia — The Mortant 7th were one of a number of Imperial Guard Regiments deployed on Colonia against the ork hordes of Warlord Gharag Badtoof.[2]
- At one point in the campaign, the Mortant 7th was nearly annihilated in a surprise ambush by an Eldar warhost of Craftworld Saim-Hann. The regiment was saved by the intervention of Gunnery Sergeant Harker of the Catachan Jungle Fighters, who sprang a counter-ambush. Harker and a single Catachan Devil Squadron killed the warhost's Autarch and drove the eldar off.[3]
- According to some reports, after the orks were defeated the Mortant 7th went on a rampage against the Imperial settlements on Colonia, looting indiscriminately. Others, however, deny these reports and insist that the damage to these settlements was the work of the orks.[2]
Heraldry
The regiment's badge is a skull superimposed on two curved knives. This is mounted on a ring bearing the words "IMPERIALIS DICTATE" with two eagle's heads at the top of the ring.[1a][2]
Organisation
The Mortant 7th utilises a single Tank Company to support its infantry.[1a] The regiment also possesses a single Artillery Company.[1d]
Assets
The regiment is known to include a Stygies VIII pattern Leman Russ Vanquisher.[1a] They also use Gryphonne IV Chimeras with heavy bolters.[1b] Also include at least one artillery company consist of 6 or more Basilisks[1d] and some Hydra Platforms.[1e]
The Lucius-pattern Baneblade Arethusa of the Konig 9th Heavy Tank Company was also attached to this Regiment.[1c]
