Re-Education Facility
A Re-Education Facility or Re-Education Camp are a method of punishment and social control used by the Tau Empire.[1a]
Re-Education Facilities are operated by the Water Caste and serve as the ultimate sanction for those of the Tau Empire which go against the Greater Good. Often these individuals are deemed mentally deficient and thus condemned to be re-educated at a secure facility.[1a] Within Re-Education facilities, prisoners are subjected to software-based psychotherapy[1c] and regular propaganda sessions extoling the values of the Greater Good. Those that return from such facilities are described as "drooling dogs".[1b]
Crimes that warrant being sent to a Re-Education Facility include performing actions outside of ones designated Caste[1a], non-conformity[1d], or questioning the authority of the Ethereals.[1c] Sometimes under rare circumstances, entire conquered populations of especially troublesome and stubborn species such as Humans are sent to Re-Education Facilities.[2]
