Sabertooth Games
Sabertooth Games was an imprint of BL Publishing, a subsidiary of Games Workshop.[1] It specialised in collectible cards games, primarily based on the Warhammer Fantasy and Warhammer 40,000 settings, though expanding into licensed third-party intellectual properties in 2006 with the introduction of Universal Fighting System[2] and a collectible miniatures game based on The Lord of the Rings.[3]
Games Workshop closed Sabertooth Games in 2008, and its licences were transferred to Fantasy Flight Games.[4][5]
History
Sabertooth Games was founded in 2001 by Bob Watts, the former head of Games Workshop USA. After leaving Games Workshop in 1991, Watts established Heartbreaker Hobbies, later joining Wizards of the Coast in 1999. Following his departure from Wizards, he founded Sabertooth Games, based in Memphis, Tennessee.
Shortly after establishing the company, Watts approached Games Workshop with a proposal to produce collectible card games based on the Warhammer Fantasy and Warhammer 40,000 intellectual properties. Games Workshop granted the licence, and following a period of commercial growth, Sabertooth Games was acquired by Games Workshop.[1]
