Talk:Nimbosa Crusade
There's a definatly an error on GWs part in the fiction on this one. The Cities of Death book specifically references both the Second Sphere Expansion and have fleet Kraken even though the events are about 200 years apart. The 5th Ed guard codex specifically gives the date for the Nimbosa campaign as 790.M41 putting it in line with the second sphere expansion but not Hive Fleet Kraken, whose first sign was 200 years after Hive Fleet Behemoth which ended around 745M41. I'd guess that the writers ment Hive Fleet Behemoth, or perhaps just they Tyrannic Wars in general however since the txt references Kraken no real way to change it unless it comes out in a FAQ. --Annatar2 January 11 2010
- This kind of error is not really untypical for GW, I'm afraid. Our policy is that the newest source is right. Nevertheless we do also mention the other dates and describe the problem under "Notes". --Inquisitor S., Großmeister des Ordo Lexicanum 17:16, 11 January 2010 (UTC)
- The Imperial Guard Codex is rife with inconsistencies though... It hardly even qualifies as a source! It also states that the Damocles Gulf Crusade was an eleven year event taking place between 979-988.M41(pg. 24), while simultaneously stating that it occurred in 742.M41 (pg. 43).
- On a slightly related note, the Cities of Death information isn't technically contradictory. The Second Sphere Expansion explains a block of time in the Empire's history; the second of which didn't end after the Damocles Gulf Crusade and Farsight's crusade to retake the worlds lost to the Imperium. Technically, the Empire was still in its "Second Sphere" all the way up until the Third Sphere Expansion was launched ca. 997.M41. So that's two sources; Cities of Death and the 4e Tau Codex in favor of the more recent invasion (ca. Kraken), and one terrible source; the 5e Imperial Guard Codex in favor of the older invasion (ca. Behemoth).
- Not to mention the supporting evidence in the Tau Codices, where Brightsword is an impressionable young student of Farsight during the Arkunasha War (~745-763.M41), and has just returned from invading Nimbosa in Kill Team (ca. 996.M41), corroborated with the short story "Assault on Nimbosa" previously hosted on the Games Workshop website, detailing the Ultramarines retaliation for the planet (ca. 001.M42)... I'm personally putting my money of the older, more cross-referenced sources, and slightly modifying the Notes section to reflect a more neutral stance... Here's hoping the next Codex fixes these issues... Doombringer126 08:41, 11 July 2010 (UTC)
