Warden of the Imperium Nihilus

The Warden of the Imperium Nihilus is an Imperial title, that is given to those who are charged with defending the worlds of the blighted Imperium Nihilus.[1]

History

The first and current Warden is the Blood Angels Chapter's Commander Dante, who was bestowed with the title by Lord Commander Roboute Guilliman in the aftermath of the Devastation of Baal. Under his decree, Dante has the ultimate authority over all the Imperial forces within Imperium Nihilus and the Commander has used them to defend its worlds. While there are many in the Inquisition who fear the power he has been given can easily be misused, any who question it agree Dante can be trusted with the responsibility. As Warden, the Commander has rebuilt the Baal System to be his base of operations and it draws in wayward Imperial forces, which are conscripted into his army and refugees who Dante resettles to safer locations. The warships found there have been reforged into the Fleet Nihilus, which carries Dante's armies as they defend the realm's endangered worlds. The Commander also seeks to use his forces to restore the Emperor's rule over the entire Imperium Nihilus as well. However while he has achieved many great victories since becoming Warden, Dante knows he has been given an honourable, yet impossible mission. He has become overwhelmed by the sheer amount of desperate pleas for aid he has received and the Commander's forces can not answer them all. Despite this, Dante continues to carry out the duties he has been given with dedication and loyalty, for the Commander knows no other way.[1]
