The ''Glaive of Janus'' served for almost ten thousand years as the flagship of the First Brotherhood.{{Fn|1b}} After the conclusion of the [[First War of Armageddon]], the warship took part in the containment campaign on the planet of [[Armageddon]].{{Fn|1a}}

During the [[Months of Shame]], the ''Glaive'' and its [[frigate]]s, ''[[Kaskara]]'' and ''[[Spatha (Frigate)|Spatha]]'', were destroyed by a [[Space Wolves]] ambush, resulting in the death of 50 veterans of the 1st Brotherhood. The remains of the three ships were later found by the Grey Knights frigate ''[[Karabela]]''.{{Fn|1b}}
