Auto Weapons are used by the Imperium, generally as an alternative to Las Weapons, as some commanders prefer their enemies to continue to bleed after being hit, whereas las weapons immediatly cauterizes the wound. They are solid slug firing weapons meaning that they are more likely to run out of ammunition in a protracted battle due to the increased size of the ammunition and subsequent reduction in the volume which can be carried. Also, auto weapons cannot recharge like las weapons.
Auto Weapons have, for the most part, been removed from the arsenals of the Imperium due to their similarity to las weapons, except for the Autocannon.
Autopistols and Autoguns are similar in power to their laser counterparts (Laspistol and Lasgun) but the Autocannon is very different to the Lascannon. Instead of very high power it has a higher rate of fire, which has allowed it to survive the recent reduction in weapons types available to the Imperial commander. There are also sniper weapons using solid slugs, however these are also being superceded by the Long-las.

Autocannons are fast firing and long ranged and are still in use throughout the Imperium.
