The Colchisian Torquatii were Solar Auxilia Regiments that served the Word Bearers and were raised from Legion's Homeworld, Colchis, during the Great Crusade and the Horus Heresy.[1]
History
They were originally composed of citizens from Colchis' great coastal cities and wore sombre funerary black and grey. However, the Torquatii would later adopt the same red colour used by the Word Bearers, which was applied to the regiments' chest armour and helmets. These were first adorned with script and runic devices from Colchis' esoteric traditions, but they were later replaced by the teachings of the Word Bearers' Primarch, Lorgar. This also applied to the regiments' vehicles, whose red panel honour livery were penned with lines of votive text and runic icons.[1]
The Colchisian Torquatii were far more disciplined than the standard Cultist rabble that often followed in the wake of the Word Bearers. However they were just as fanatical in their devotion to the XVIIth Legion. Many were drawn from worlds surrounding Colchis and named honorary Colchisians in exchange for service.[2]
