The Legiones Auxilia were Imperial military units (primarily Cohorts of the Solar Auxilia, but also including elements of the Legio Cybernetica^[1a]) dedicated to fighting in support of the Space Marine Legions during the Great Crusade and Horus Heresy.^[1a][1c]

Overview

Although it varied depending on which Legion they fought in support of, in general the role of the auxiliaries was to support their Astartes masters in the field in whichever way the Legions required, whether that was protecting the flanks of a massed battle formation, holding seized ground, providing a garrison for held areas or conducting artillery bombardments.^[1a]

Most Auxilia formations fought based on the doctrines of the Solar Auxilia, at least initially; over time, however, their tactics and methods were often influenced by their patron Legions.^[1a]
