History
Crafted by the gene-wrights of Arkad System, the Janissaries initially fought bitterly against the Imperial Army, during the Great Crusade, until their System was brought into Compliance. Afterwards they were swiftly incorporated into the Solar Auxilia,[1] and Arkadia's militarized population were forged into further Regiments.[2] Few could match the Janissaries' stoic calm in combat and great use of Super Heavy Tanks. They made little use of armoured transports, though, as they chose to instead advance in complete silence and at a slow measured pace, in order to intimidate their enemies. Each Janissary was assured of their position by rigorous indoctrination, with their ranks implacable even in the face of ferocious bombardment or enemy charge. This allowed the Janissaries to present a flawless line of poised lasrifles and bayonets in battle, which were often preceded by entire battlegroups of Baneblades and Stormhammers. These Super Heavy Tanks would break the lines of the Janissaries' foes, before their infantry swept the survivors from the battlefield.[1]
The Janissaries uniform was usually grey, but several Regiments began wearing Tyrion purple after they pledged themselves to the Emperor's Children Legion, during the Great Crusade. However this relationship appeared to be unilateral, as the Janissaries were never formally inducted into the Emperor's Children's service or ever appeared in its ranks of Legiones Auxilia. This did not stop these Regiments from betraying the Imperium, during the Horus Heresy and joining the Traitor hordes of Warmaster Horus. Many other Arkadian Janissaries would follow suit and in the latter days of the Heresy, only a handful of Regiments would remain loyal to the Emperor.[2] When the Heresy's Battle of Beta-Garmon began, the Janissaries were one of the earliest Traitor forces to make war in the battle. Led by the ancient Legate Commander Dorresti Sabar, they became one of the most feared of the Traitor forces fighting within the Beta-Garmon System.[1] By that time, many of these Traitor Janissaries bore Chaos icons on the hulls of their vehicles.[2]
