The Calibanite Jaegers (or Caliban Jaegers[2]) were Solar Auxilia Regiments that were raised from the Dark Angels Legion's homeworld, Caliban, during the Great Crusade and Horus Heresy.[1]

History

Drawn from a populace with years of experience fighting the horrifying monsters of their homeworld, they proved to be valuable troops in I Legion service. Given the title of Jaeger for their experience hunting the great beasts of Caliban, they were shared the taciturn and insular character of their parent legion and fought alongside them with an eerie synchronicity and unity of purpose. Despite this, they were not inducted into the innermost mysteries of the Legion.[4]

During the Horus Heresy, they defended their world alongside the Dark Angels that were commanded by Grand Master Luther.[2]

Calibanite Hussars

Those Jaegers Regiments who specialized in armoured warfare were known as Calibanite Hussars.[1]

Heraldry

All of their armour was charcoal black, except for the Jaegers' right shoulders which were picked out in green. This was also true for their vehicles, which were marked with green vertical bands.[1]

Trivia

  • Jaeger (correct German modern spelling Jäger, sometimes in English also written as Jager) is the German word for "hunter". It is also the name used for specific types of light infantry in German-speaking states as the civilian occupations of the soldiers recruited for these units were often forest-related, so often they were hunters and foresters. This made them well-suited to patrolling and skirmishing tasks. Caliban was covered with dense forests, so the use of the term Jaeger for units recruited from its local population could stem from this historical connection.
