The Sthenelus System, sometimes called the Medusan System is the planetary system of Medusa, homeworld of the Iron Hands.[1]

Overview

The Sthenelus System[1]

Consisting of nine worlds which orbit around the angry star Sthenelus, most of the System is inimical to life and sparsely populated by elements of the Iron Hands or Adeptus Mechanicus. It is thought that a debris belt located between the orbits of Raeon and Thennos are the remains of an unnamed planet destroyed during the Age of Strife by unknown means. However, speculation by the Ordo Astra theorizes that the system may once have been the site of a clash between the Necrons and their ancient foes. This hypothesis goes on to say that that not only the dust belt, but possibly what are now the dead worlds of Thoosa and Graea, are fragmented remains of prosperous planets destroyed in that conflict. While there still is no concrete proof for this theory, Medusan folklore might indicate a lingering Necron presence on Medusa itself as late as the Age of Strife.[1]

Trivia

  • The system may derive its name from Stheno, one of the Gorgons of Ancient Greek mythology and sister of Medusa.
