The Railgun is one of the strongest weapons in Warhammer 40,000 and is used by the Tau. It uses magnetically accelerated ammunition to destroy heavily armoured vehicles. It can be used in conjunction with a Markerlight to make it even more accurate.
Two units use the railgun:
Railguns also exist in the smaller rifle version (Rail Rifle) by Pathfinder Teams and Sniper Drone Teams but isn't as reliable as the vehicle mounted version as it can sometimes kill the user (much like the Imperial Plasma Gun). However, as of the third sphere expansion, advancements in the technology have eliminated the possibility of a misfire.
