Overview
Originally, the Proudheart had been like any other Imperial battleship. When its masters began changing after they had fallen under the sway of Slaanesh, so did the ship. Its gilt-edged flanks were studded with silver-mawed weapons batteries, and swam with colour like spilled oil. The scars of a hundred campaigns it had participated in were fashioned into adornments by gangs of indentured artisan-slaves[4a].
Deep within its tormented hull, the corridors were maintained in a state of constant day, and echoed to an incessant cacophony of amplified and resampled cries. Branded menials had their eyes sewn shut and ears removed to better withstand these extreme conditions. Those who succumbed anyway were replaced with vat-enhanced analogues[4a].
The bridge of Proudheart featured numerous tiers, and was burnished with gold, jasper, and chrysolyte. Lamps within iron cages cast writhing shadows across polished stone. A giant, pearl-enclosed oculus viewer hung high above the command throne[5].
History
During the Great Crusade it took part in the War on Murder[1] and the Cleansing of Laeran[4a].
At the onset of the Horus Heresy, the Proudheart participated in the Isstvan III Atrocity and Dropsite Massacre[4a]. Eidolon continued to command the battleship throughout his — ultimately abandoned — quest to cure his ungainly body[2], the gathering of Emperor's Children forces at agri-station Pyrus Sigma 45-1[3], up to and including the Battle of the Kalium Gate[4b] and the Battle of Catallus in 011.M31[4c]. Its last known deployment involved the leadership dispute between Eidolon and Lord Commander Archorian upon the toxic world of Horvia[5].
Following the muster of traitor forces on Ullanor in 013.M31, it had been replaced by the Wage of Sin[6][7].
Notes
When he arrived in orbit of Murder and tried to identify this ship Horus (possibly consciously - to check his subordinates) designated it as a Battle Barge[1].
