Tranquilatus is an Imperial world.[1] It was the site of a major daemonic incursion and a tense, near-fratricidal standoff between the Space Wolves and the Dark Angels during the grim days of the Wulfen's return to the materium.[1a]

History

In the closing days of the 41st Millennium, a sudden and violent Warp Storm engulfed Tranquilatus, unleashing hordes of the Ruinous Powers upon the planet. A company of the Dark Angels Chapter arrived to wage war against it and were already heavily engaged with the daemonic forces when the Space Wolves came.[1a]

Wolf Lord Sven Bloodhowl led the Space Wolves of Strike Force Sagablade to Tranquilatus, guided by the auguries of the Rune Priests to recover their lost brethren of the 13th Great Company, the Wulfen. Upon making planetfall, the Space Wolves successfully located a pack of the mutated warriors. However, the Dark Angels, witnessing the beast-like forms of the Wulfen, demanded that the Space Wolves surrender the "mutants" over to them for immediate judgment.[1a]

Before the standoff could escalate, a massive daemonic attack interrupted the standoff. Recognizing the dire strategic situation and prioritizing the recovery of his ancient kin, Wolf Lord Bloodhowl utilized the daemonic assault as a distraction to extract the Wulfen and withdraw his forces from the battlefield without exchanging fire with the sons of the Lion.[1a]

The Changeling's Deception

Though bloodshed between the Chapters was averted on the surface of the planet, aboard the Dark Angels' strike cruiser Silent Oath, the Grand Master of the Ravenwing, Sammael, received reports of the Space Wolves' actions, seeing their retreat as craven behavior and believing they had abandoned the fight to protect monstrous abominations.[1b]

This suspicion was masterfully stoked by a Daemon of Tzeentch, the Changeling, who took the form of Master Astropath Asconditus and used the events on Tranquilatus to frame the Space Wolves as heretics and mutants, manipulating the Dark Angels into moving against the Fenris system.[1c]
