The Swift Protector Wing is a specialized formation used by the Tau Empire for close-in fire support and counter-assaults.

Overview

The Swift Protector Wing was first invented by the Fire Caste of the Ke'lshan Sept. Taking advantage of the newly-issued XV9 'Hazard' Close Support Armour, the Wing is designed to rapidly redeploy overwhelming firepower in order to block a hole in friendly battle-lines or apply pressure at the point of attack. Despite the great danger in these assignments, the Fire Warriors who pilot their XV9s in this duty consider it a great honour.1

Three teams of two XV9s, which can be supplemented by up to two Remora Drone Stealth Fighters, are deployed by a modified hover-capable Orca Dropship protected by defensive energy fields.1
