Necare
Necare was the greatest of the Overlord Xenos species, that ruled over Barbarus. He brought about their downfall however, when he discovered the infant Mortarion and chose to raise the Primarch as a weapon to use against his enemies. As Mortarion began to rapidly grow and mature, he looked upon Necare as a father, but the Overlord was a cruel taskmaster. Necare regularly beat Mortarion and denied the Primarch any education that was not of the Overlord's desiring, forcing Mortarion to learn about his Homeworld Barbarus, through guile and subterfuge. This brutal treatment began to cause resentment to grow within Mortarion, until the Primarch finally rebelled against Necare and escaped the Overlord's fortress. From there, he began hunting and killing the Overlords and eventually began organizing the Humans they preyed upon, into an army that destroyed them. Necare became the last of the Overlords, but he remained safe for a time, as Barbarus' poisonous atmosphere made it impossible for Mortarion and his freed Human army to safety reach Necare's fortress in the highest peak of a mountain. After much preparation Mortarion went to confront his father, after finally creating a suit of armour that would allow him to survive long enough to reach Necare's fortress. When he neared it though, Mortarion's armour began to corrode and let Barbarus' poisonous atmosphere in, but the Primarch refused to give up on seeking his vengeance. When he reached Necare's fortress, the Overlord was waiting for him, but Mortarion was so weakened by then, that he was easy prey for his father. Before Necare could strike Mortarion down though, his true father, the Emperor, appeared beside them. The Emperor had launched his Great Crusade and had begun searching for the lost Primarchs to aid him in his quest. Having finally found Mortarion, the Emperor easily killed Necare and then whisked the wounded Primarch to safety.[1]
