The Cataclysmus Device is a thrown weapon that uses heavy material micro-fission, developed by a Adeptus Mechanicus sub-sect.[1]

Description

The hand-held Cataclysmus Device is similar to capital-grade nuclear devices, only extremely miniaturised, making it man-portable. It is designed to be used in close-range firefights, where it is deployed by being thrown, being too easily detonated to be fired using grenade launcher. Targets caught in the blast radius, which aren't instantly annihilated, suffer from radiation sickness and must seek out anti-radiation treatments to survive.[1]

The Cataclysmus Device was developed by a Mechanicus sub-sect which had been exiled from Hadd for being "insufficiently respectful of the past", because the technology behind the Cataclysmus Device, heavy material micro-fission, was long seen as too wasteful and inefficient by the mainstream of the Mechanicus. According to unconfirmed reports, the sub-sect is rumoured to have settled on Lacuna, where they continue their experiments.[1]
