The Cataclysmus Device is a thrown weapon that uses heavy material micro-fission, developed by a Adeptus Mechanicus sub-sect.[1]

Description

The hand-held Cataclysmus Device is similar to capital-grade nuclear devices, only extremely miniaturised, making it man-portable. It is designed to be used in close-range firefights, where it is deployed by being thrown, being too easily detonated to be fired from a grenade launcher. Targets caught in the blast radius, which aren't instantly annihilated, suffer from radiation sickness and must seek out anti-radiation treatments to survive.[1]

The Cataclysmus Device was developed by a Mechanicus sub-sect which had been exiled from Hadd for being "insufficiently respectful of the past", because the technology behind the Cataclysmus Device, heavy material micro-fission, was long seen as too wasteful and inefficient by the mainstream of the Mechanicus. According to unconfirmed reports, the sub-sect is rumoured to have settled on Lacuna, where they continue their experiments.[1]
