Maless Darkblade is a Drukhari Reaver in the Kabal of the Dark Blade, who is possessed by a powerful Daemon.[1]

History

Maless Darkblade[1]

This occurred as the Kabal was raiding the notorious Chaos city Skurminal, which the Crucibles whispered held a great treasure. Maless led a group of his fellow Reavers in the raid, which he commanded from his noble Jetbike steed Spite, which he talked to. However when the Kabal's Archon later ordered the Kabal to withdraw from Skurminal, Maless refused to leave the city until he found the treasure. Maless was then drawn towards a building he felt reeked of power and one of his Reavers found an engraving within in it, next to two giant sealed doors.[1]

The engraving read, "Step forward into the Vaults of Wishes and become as a God" and the Reaver reading it said he liked the sound of that. When he asked what Maless thought though, he immediately killed him and the other Reavers, while declaring that if anyone became a god, it would be him. After his former companions were dead, Maless entered the Vaults of Wishes whose doors had opened and were emitting a bright light. However once he entered the Vaults, the light immediately engulfed him in pain. As he screamed, a Daemon began speaking into his head and told Maless that it had just possessed him. After being imprisoned for eons, Maless had freed it and the Daemon would now pour its power into him, so the Reaver could act as its vessel of vengeance. With Maless under its control, the Daemon promised it would now commit cruelties that had been undreamed of.[1]

However, after the Daemon had finished speaking, Maless simply replied that he was looking forward to the mayhem it would unleash. This surprised the Daemon, as none of its previous hosts had reacted so well to being possessed. Maless then remarked that the day had been full of surprises for both of them, as he mounted Spite and prepared to rejoin the Kabal of the Dark Blade's forces. The Daemon then attempted to regain control of the situation, but Maless told it to shut up, as he rode off into Skurminal's sky.[1]

Warhammer Monthly 63 included stories of its Warhammer Fantasy charcters in Warhammer 40,000 settings (and vice versa) including "Maless Darkblade", a Warhammer 40,000 inversion of Dark Elf Cold One Knight Malus Darkblade with his Cold One Spite.[1]
