Battle-Sign
Battle-sign (or battle sign) is a combat-oriented sign language of hand gestures used by warriors during battle.[1][3][4] There is a variety of battle-signs used by the Astra Militarum[4] and Space Marine Chapters of the 41st millennium. The T'au Fire Warrior caste also use their own form of gestural battle sign in combat.[3]
History
The Sign Language has diverged over the millennia, since the Legions' were divided into Chapters and each has adapted it for their own use.[1] Space Marine Legionaries of M30 also used Hortcode, another sign language of the Imperium.[2]
The Sisters of Silence are fluent in various forms of sign language, but since the years of the Horus Heresy knowledge of the Legiones Astartes battle-signs has largely become redundant and atrophied. This is due to the two organisations various changes over the millennia and lack of interaction, as well as contemporary Astartes battle-sign fracturing into numerous divergent forms by M41.[1]
